Valo
VALO
A survivor-like game where every shot counts. The world has been consumed by darkness, and your only source of light is the muzzle flash of your trusted rifle. But in the shadows, something lurks—watching, waiting. Just because you can’t see them… doesn’t mean they’re not there. I interpreted the theme "View" as what it can feel like when viewing is next to impossible. The muzzle flash mechanic introduces reflex gameplay as well as the need for memorization. Additionally, the game incorporates directional sound effects, such as footsteps. These can be used to get a sense of where the enemies are when your view fails.

DEVELOPMENT PROCESS
This was my first game ever. For that reason I think it went really good overall. My first idea was a bit too grand, I realized on the third day that I wouldn't be able to implement intricate upgrade and shop systems with my experience. So I settled on a smaller game so I could polish it, and hopefully learn a bit about every step of the process. That is also why I decided to go solo, to learn a bit of everything, which I did! I definitely got inspiration from Vampire Survivors. The muzzle flash mechanic was actually not intended to be the main mechanic, as I first also had a torch. When I tested to ditch the torch it became obvious that I should go further with the muzzle flash mechanic.
